I have the same problem. The software is MS home and student.

Was there a trial version already installed on your computer, or another
version of Office?

There was a trial version which I deleted because the version I purchased was
much cheaper.

When you say "deleted" presumably you uninstalled via Control panel, rather
than actually deleting in Windows Explorer?

Yes, I deleted via the control panel. Now every time I load a .doc, .ppt,
..xls file etc, windows goes through a configuration process. I can open word,
powerpoint, excel programmes wiithout problem and can then open .doc etc from
within the main programme. It's very frustrating.

I have the same problem. I use Windows XP & Office 2007 for Home & Student.
I have had a couple problems with my hard drive and have had to re-install
Office at least twice since original install. Could this have something to
do with it? My comuter guys said just to reinstall it so when I did, if it
tried to delete the old progam, I so OK. We are using IE6 if that matters.
We had IE 7 before but when I tried to update that, I couldn't even get on
the internet until I uninstalled IE7 and went back to IE6. UGGGGH!

Thanks for any suggestions!
