Configuring SMTP + Notifications and reminders

D

Debbie

Do you have to have a mapi client installed on the project server to send
notifications and reminders? Let me Explain what I have done so far:

I am attempting to set up notifications and reminders on a client's server.
The server is not installed in the client's domain. The server is installed
in our DMZ. The SMTP Service has been installed and is running on the
server. No Outlook client has been installed on the server. No Exchange
Server has been installed on the server. Our SMTP Server guy has allowed
e-mail to be sent through our smtp server from our project server.

I have done the following:

I have opened PWA as an administrator
Opened “Customize Project Web Accessâ€
Selected “Notifications and Remindersâ€
Entered the IP Address of our smtp server on Port 25
Put (e-mail address removed) in the from address
Set the company e-mail address as companyA.com
(here is where it starts to ge tricky: the server's domain is
CompanyB.companyA.local)
Configured my default e-mail message.
Set the reminder service to run at 3 p.m. daily.
Saved the Changes

All of the user’s e-mail addresses for @CompanyC.com and some e-mail
addressses for @CompanyA.com are entered in the Enterprise Resource Pool.

I created a test project and added resources from the enterprise resource
pool.
I opened PWA and on my home page selected "Alert me about my resources on
tasks and status reports." I selected all of the parameters to "e-mail me
and my resources"

Waited for the reminder notification time to come and go, and there were no
notifications or reminders for myself or my resources.

To add yet another kink in the chain, not all resources have the ability to
log in to PWA so they are not able to set their own notifications and
reminders.

Shouldn't the SMTP service read the "To" field from the Enterprise Resource
Pool and the and "From" field from the SMTP configuration in PWA?

What am doing wrong? What am I missing?
Thanks,

Debbie
