Confirmation Page

Hi there,

I am fairly new to front page. I have created a
confirmation form and have linked it to a form submit
button. I am running the site from my PC and when I view
the file in the browser preview I get the following
message:

"FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page
that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server
Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly
if you publish this web to a web server that has the
FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page."

The book I am reading seems to suggest that I need the
Persona Web Server, but I can't find it on the FrontPage
CD. Can anyone help?

FP2000/FP2002 doesn't come with a Personal Web server and if you are running
Windows XP Home, one can not be installed.

However you form should work correctly once you have publish the web to a
remote server that has the FP extensions, via FP's http mode, and the host
has configured the FP extensions to process email.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for that information and sorry for missing out a
lot of details on my original mail last night. However I
am working on a Win2000 machine and using FP2002. Can I
get a copy of the Personal Web Server and try to test my
form before publishing it on a server which has in fact FP
server extensions?

If you are using Windows 2000 Pro, then you have IIS, see add/remove window
components, however you most likely will not be able to test the ability to
send email, as most ISPs do not allow email to be sent, unless you are
logged into their mail server via your ISP account to prevent users from
sending spam.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks again for your prompt reply. The information was
useful, I have installed the IIS on my machine as you
suggested, but I still have the same problem (I do not
know how to start the IIS).

I will restate the problem. I have FP2002 running on
Win200. I have just created a small web site using the
Corporate Presence template and have modified the product
request form to better suit my needs. At the bottom of
this form are 2 buttons: submit and reset. I have
attached a confirmation page to the submit button. When I
view the site in preview mode and click on the submit
button I get the message I sent you before as opposed to
the confirmation page. Where am I going wrong?

I am a very beginner to FrontPage and will require
spoonfeeding (I am following the advice in the 'Complete
Reference') book!

I am reluctant to publish my site on the web as it is not
finished and yet I would like to test that form
functionality before publishing the site.

When you say attach the confirmation page to the submit button, how are you
doing this?

If using the FP Form Handler (the default), you would automatically have a
confirmation page, and if you want a custom confirmation page, you would
configure that under Form properties.

Thomas,

It is a custom confirmation page which looks like a
letter, the name of the customer I take it from a field
box on the form.

I have attached the confirmation page to the form using
the following:
Form Properties -> Options. In the Confirmation Page URL
field of the Confirmation Page tab I haave browsed and
selected the name of the confirmation page.

Pascal,

Try removing the custom confirmation page in form properties, then test the
form, you should see the default confirmation page, let us know if that
works.

Hi Thomas,

I can no longer see your last message where you asked me
to remove the custom confirmation page, hence I am
replying here. Well here is what I have done...

I have removed the custom confirmation page from the Form
Properties -> Option -> Save Results -> Confirmation Page
tab.

I have copied the whole site directory under
inetpub\wwwroot. In there I have changed the name of the
file index.htm to default.htl. I have opened this last
file in Internet Explorer and followed the link to the
form. I have clicked the submit button and get the same
error message as before. What is more, I have placed
validation on the form fields which do not trigger any
error messages prior to the form being processed.

Do you know what I am doing wrong?

1. Never copy a FP web, FP web need to be published between locations or
machines.
2. Always open each webs via FP at http://localhost and also when testing.
3. Never open a server based web via it's file system location, i.e., c:\...

You need to publish the site via the publish feature in FP to a server running
Frontpage extensions.
