Conflict with Adobe PS4

E

Ernie Lippert

I have beeen using Access 2007 with XP for some time. After I upgraded
Photoshop to version 4, I could no longer start Access 2007. Access2007.lnk
seems to be misssing. Repairing the installation of Office 2007 does not
help. Any suggestions?

Gina,
Thank you for your patience. I would love to click on Access 2007.exe but
where is it? Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office> gives me a list of 2-3 KB
shortcuts for Microsoft Office Excell 2007, Power Point 2007, Publisher, Word
and Outlook; all of which work. Access 2007 appears in this list but on
clicking it, the X message appears as previously stated. Examining the
Properties for any of these shortcuts shows a blank for Start In and the Find
Target option is greyed out. This is also true for the 2003 products. What do
I do next?

You might be interested in the comments to my companion post, "Access 2007
won't run, 11/10/2009". I am really puzzled on what is goining on. I used to
run both Access 2003 and 2007 on my XP machine. When I would open one or the
other, the installer would come up and install the correct version if it
wasn't the last one used.

Thanks again for your help.

Ernie,

You should go thru Windows Explorer... this is where mine is:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2007\Office12\msaccess.exe

Depending on what path you choose when you installed yours could be the same
or different.

Gina,
I found it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12\msaccess.exe.

When I double click, I get the X message shown before. !!

Ernie,

THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL WORK....

Sounds like your install got hosed. I would uninstall, making sure that
..EXE is deleted and then reinstall. After that I'm not sure what to do
because can't say this is normal.

Another thought, where did you get Adobe PS4 from? Might be the download
came with some unwanted friends called bugs and viruses?

Gina,
My last post produced an error and the text disappeared. Here is what I said
to bring you up to date.

I downloaded PS4 from Adobe.
I use Kaspersky Internet Security.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\msaccess.exe runs Access 2000
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE 11\msaccess.exe runs Access 2003
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12\msaccess.exe produces the same
eror messsage previously given.

I deleted Office 12\msaccess.exe but not msaccess.exe.manifest or other
'fragment files' beginning with ms because I am not certain what they
actually are. I then ran X12-30196-DLM.exe (Digital River) and chose to
delete existing files and restart. This downloaded Microsoft Office
Professional 2007. I then selected to install all features and started the
configuration process. It completed successfully.

As a result Access 2000 and 2003 still ran as did all Office 2007 components
except Access 2007. The same error message was produced.

I suppose the next step would be to uninstall PS4 and try again and hope
that the problem doesn't come back. Do you have any other ideas?

Ernie,

Turn off *Kaspersky Internet Security* and try running Access 2007. I would
also have turned that off while downloading and installing, just because in
the past that type of software has been known to cause issue. However,
you're last suggestion of redownloading PS4 might be it. If you uninstall
and can open Access 2007 then you might want to get in touch with Adobe and
see if they have any reported errors.

Gina,
Thanks for your help and advice. I solved one problem by making the status
of wuinstall.exe Trusted in Kaspersky. It had been marked as Untrusted. This
allowed me to run Access 2000, Access 2003, and Access 2007! However, Help
was not available in Access 2007. Iwould get a Windows Installer Error 33 and
CLview would not function. -- rats - cleaning the Registry didn't help.

Next, after a reboot I paused Kaspersky, uninstalled Office 2007
Professional, then reinstalled Office 2007, rebooted and cleaned the Registry.

The desktop shortcuts for Access 2000 and 2003 disappeared. Access 2007 ran
as did Help and other functions. Access 2000 and 2003 would not run. The
message said the computer was not configured to run them.

On the bright side, Access 2007 seems to be backwards compatible. My earlier
applications seem to run. However, I programmed an extensive application for
a client in 2003. At the moment I am not certain if I can do maintenance
should it become necessary. The company may migrate to Office 2007 but becaue
of the cost of the upgrade and the extensive retraing of many of their
employees, this may not happen soon.

Again, many thanks for you help.
Regards,
Ernie

This whole post should be renamed Conflict with Kaspersky Internet Security.
It has nothing at all to do with Adobe PS4.

Ernie,

Wll, the good news we have traced the culprit of your issue. The bad news
is that frequently those types of programs are the culprit and you have to
run around the forest to figure that out. I would suggest, even though this
will be time consuming. Disabling Kapersky and then reinstalling Access
from earlier additions to lastest editions and seeing if that helps them all
to run. Be careful when you run the installs to install to seperate
folders, provided you have the licensing to do so, in that they will
overwrite each other if you take the default folder.

On another note, Access 2007 comes with a FREE runtime, first time ever! So
you can deploy your application in Access 2003 using the Access 2007 runtime
and your Clitns have no need to purchase anything. Have a look...
