Conflicts with Vista and Office Online Templates?

C

cnic

Has anyone had problems downloading Office templates in Vista? I can't seem
to download on this new computer.

Just checking.

C

cnic

I click the download button and it said the Active X controls were being
blocked so I unblocked them, installed them, and tried again. All I get is
a blank page. I tried downloading manually and saving to a folder to unzip,
but I get the same thing, a blank page. No download message box comes up or
anythng, just blank pages. It has to be something in Vista because it works
in XP. I just don't know what. I disabled the security and did all of the
following, but still can't access a template.
This is from the website.

Template download problem

An ActiveX control could not be installed
This template could not be downloaded because the Office Online ActiveX
control could not be installed on your computer.

ActiveX controls are small programs that provide additional features for Web
pages. The Office Online ActiveX control is needed to automatically download
and open Office Online templates on your computer.

Why this problem happened
You may not have administrator rights on your computer or your Internet
Explorer settings may prevent the installation or use of the ActiveX
control.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To solve this problem and automatically download templates:
If you don't have administrator rights on your computer

You must have administrator rights to to install programs on your computer.
To find out whether you are an administrator on your computer, check with
your organization's system administrator or the person who set up your
computer.

If you don't have administrator rights, you can ask your system
administrator or the person who set up your computer to download the
template for you. To do this, the person with administrator rights should
take the following steps:

Log on as Administrator on your computer.
Go to any template on Office Online.
Download a template.
Log off.

Once the administrator has downloaded the template for you, the ActiveX
control will be installed and you can automatically download templates from
Office Online.

If your Internet Explorer settings are preventing the installation or use of
the ActiveX control

Add Office Online to your list of trusted sites
When you add Office Online to your list of trusted sites, you allow your
browser to download and run ActiveX controls and others files automatically
from our Web site. Adding a Web site as a trusted site can have security
implications. For more information, you can read about URL Security Zones.

To add the Office Online Web site to your list of trusted sites:

On the Tools menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Internet Options,
and then click the Security tab.
Click the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
check box.
In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://office.microsoft.com,
and then click Add.
Click OK twice.
Click this link to reinstall the ActiveX control:Download the {0} for Office
Online
Unblock the ActiveX control
If you are running Microsoft Windows® XP with Service Pack 2, you may have
disabled the ActiveX control at one time.

To enable the control:

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons.
Select Microsoft Office Template and Media Control. If you do not see that
control listed, click the arrow on the Show box at the top of the Manage
Add-ons dialog box, and then select Add-ons that have been used by Internet
Explorer.
Under Settings, click Enable. You may see a message saying that you need to
restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.
Click OK twice.

When you have changed these settings, try downloading this template again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To download this template manually without solving this problem:
Click Download Now below.
In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
Select the folder where you want to save the compressed file, and then click
Save.
Open the folder where you saved the compressed (.cab) file, and then
double-click the file.
Use one of the following methods to extract the template from the compressed
file:
If the file opens in WinZip® or another decompression program, use the
program to extract the template from the compressed file. After extracting
the file, you can double-click the template to open it in the program it was
designed for.
If the compressed file opens in a regular window, double-click the template
file, select the folder where you want to save the template, and then click
Extract. Now locate the folder in which you saved the uncompressed template,
and then double-click the template to open it.

This will begin the download process. If prompted, choose to save the file
to disk.

I click the download button and it said the Active X controls were being
blocked so I unblocked them, installed them, and tried again. All I get is
a blank page. I tried downloading manually and saving to a folder to
unzip, but I get the same thing, a blank page. No download message box
comes up or anythng, just blank pages. It has to be something in Vista
because it works in XP. I just don't know what. I disabled the security
and did all of the following, but still can't access a template.
This is from the website.

Template download problem

An ActiveX control could not be installed
This template could not be downloaded because the Office Online ActiveX
control could not be installed on your computer.

ActiveX controls are small programs that provide additional features for
Web pages. The Office Online ActiveX control is needed to automatically
download and open Office Online templates on your computer.

Why this problem happened
You may not have administrator rights on your computer or your Internet
Explorer settings may prevent the installation or use of the ActiveX
control.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To solve this problem and automatically download templates:
If you don't have administrator rights on your computer

You must have administrator rights to to install programs on your
computer. To find out whether you are an administrator on your computer,
check with your organization's system administrator or the person who set
up your computer.

If you don't have administrator rights, you can ask your system
administrator or the person who set up your computer to download the
template for you. To do this, the person with administrator rights should
take the following steps:

Log on as Administrator on your computer.
Go to any template on Office Online.
Download a template.
Log off.

Once the administrator has downloaded the template for you, the ActiveX
control will be installed and you can automatically download templates
from Office Online.

If your Internet Explorer settings are preventing the installation or use
of the ActiveX control

Add Office Online to your list of trusted sites
When you add Office Online to your list of trusted sites, you allow your
browser to download and run ActiveX controls and others files
automatically from our Web site. Adding a Web site as a trusted site can
have security implications. For more information, you can read about URL
Security Zones.

To add the Office Online Web site to your list of trusted sites:

On the Tools menu in Microsoft Internet Explorer, click Internet Options,
and then click the Security tab.
Click the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
check box.
In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type
http://office.microsoft.com, and then click Add.
Click OK twice.
Click this link to reinstall the ActiveX control:Download the {0} for
Office Online
Unblock the ActiveX control
If you are running Microsoft Windows® XP with Service Pack 2, you may have
disabled the ActiveX control at one time.

To enable the control:

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons.
Select Microsoft Office Template and Media Control. If you do not see that
control listed, click the arrow on the Show box at the top of the Manage
Add-ons dialog box, and then select Add-ons that have been used by
Internet Explorer.
Under Settings, click Enable. You may see a message saying that you need
to restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.
Click OK twice.

When you have changed these settings, try downloading this template again.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To download this template manually without solving this problem:
Click Download Now below.
In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
Select the folder where you want to save the compressed file, and then
click Save.
Open the folder where you saved the compressed (.cab) file, and then
double-click the file.
Use one of the following methods to extract the template from the
compressed file:
If the file opens in WinZip® or another decompression program, use the
program to extract the template from the compressed file. After extracting
the file, you can double-click the template to open it in the program it
was designed for.
If the compressed file opens in a regular window, double-click the
template file, select the folder where you want to save the template, and
then click Extract. Now locate the folder in which you saved the
uncompressed template, and then double-click the template to open it.

This will begin the download process. If prompted, choose to save the file
to disk.

Define "can't seem to download on this new computer."
