contact attachments appearing as messages

Recently switched over from outlook 2000 (connecting to
remote ISP-hosted mail server) to SBS2003 and Outlook 2003.

Previously was able to attach contact items from the
contacts folder and email them to a colleague in a remote
office. However, now when I send them, they appear as
message attachments - only the text/comment of the contact
record appears.

When I send the same email to myself ie just to the
exchange server and back, they appear fine. So it just
appears to be happening beyond exchange - ie STMP etc

Any ideas or solutions?
