Other mail services permit grouping addresses (contacts). eg Send a
message to groupa means sending to John, Paul and Linda. I don't see
how to do this in Gmail.

Any particular reason you're asking a GMail question in an Outlook
newsgroup?

I just checked and there doesn't appear to be a way to create a distribution
list in GMail's web interface:
