Contacts deleted in OE

R

Rich

Greetings,
My wife was trying to set up outlook express for my 9 year old daughter's
use. Thinking that it had nothing to do with Outlook, my wife deleted all
her contacts which showed in outlook express. When she launched Outlook she
had no contacts. Now she is in a panic to recover her 500+ contacts. Is
there any hope.
Thanks,
Rich

What version of Outlook and what mode, if OL 2000?

Outlook 2000 Internet mail only (IMO)

Chances are that you have Outlook using the Windows Address Book instead of
the Contacts folder. I thnk that under Tools>Options in the Windows Address
Book (the AB used by Outlook Express) there's an option to disconnect
Outlook from the WAB and use the Contacts instead.

I'm not too familiar with Outlook 2000 IMO. Perhaps Russ Valentine in this
group can answer more appropriately.

I suspect you're right. User had most likely configured Outlook Express
(WAB) to use Outlook as the data source and so deleted Outlook's Contacts.

With any luck, they will be in the Deleted Items folder. But since the
deleting was not performed from the Outlook interface, they may well be
gone. I hope the user kept backups of the PST file.
