Continued Version Errors

Barb R.

After discovering that "versions" within Word documents can lead to document
corruption, I'm attempting to delete the versions and save each version
individually. I am having difficulty opening some of the versions and get
Word errors when I do open them. An Autosave is done and the version is
recovered. Aside from saving the repaired versions, is there anything I can
do to eliminate this obvious nuisance?

Thanks in advance,

Which version of Word and OS are you using and what media are you saving to?

Word 2002
Documents resident on a "network drive". I'm not sure how to get more info
than that.

The documents I'm referring to have in excess of 15-20 versions saved within
the document. They also have detailed drawing canvases within the document.

It does sound like they are partially corrupt. Your best bet here is if
someone has Word (Office) 2003 which has an Open & Repair option. This may
get the documents opened and allow the documents to be saved as separate
versions.

Well, Word closed and reopened with a "Recovered" version which looks much
like what I've seen when I've Opened and Repaired other similar documents.
I just wanted to get the old versions out of the current document in an
effort to reduce the opportunity for corruption. I don't know if I'll be
successful, but time will tell, I guess. Heck, one of the docs was 9 meg
before I started deleting the versions and about 800 kb when I was done.

Thanks for the assist.
