Continuing Office problems

T

thebettertwin

I posted before about my problem that i cant open any of the office programs
and although i did get some replies none were successful and my post got
buried.

Here is my problem:
My computer came installed with works 2005 which had word 2002 on. Word was
working fine but then it started to say that it was not installed for the
current user even though i am the administrator and there are no other
accounts set up. i deleted word 2002 cos i couldnt find a way to fix it. i
was hoping that i would be able to download the latest office 2007 without
the problem. However, all of the programs (access, publisher, powerpoint,
outlook, excel etc....) have the same problem and are unable to open although
they display different messages. I have tried to delete all the components of
both office and works and reinstalling them but to no avail.
i have also tried doing the registry edit where you delete the office file
(i also deleted the works file). nothing seems to work and i am still getting
the "word is not installed for the current user" error message
can anyone suggest any solutions?

The best told story about why one NEVER installs beta software on a
production machine.

My suggestion? Format and reinstall. You have probably bollixed up your
installation beyond repair. Back up your important files and format and
reinstall.

Nest time, remember, beta software does not belong on a production machine.
Number 2, installing another version NEVER fixes problems with the older
version. Number three, next time you post about an issue, include the EXACT
error messages rather than the vague "I got some errors."

I compare that to the fairy tale about the Princess and the Pea. No matter
how hard they tried to hide that Pea, the Princess still knew it was there.
All they did was make it hard to find the Pea.

Because the pea was lost. But I think we should tell him more about his
problem. You should give us the exact error first, second Run chkdsk/f/r this
may help fix a few xp issues. As to the office. You did not get it all the
way out of the Registry. You just think you did. But as milly said you can
format and start with a new installation just be sure to back up. But I never
take the easy way out. I try to learn the exact problem and fix it. IF you
are using Xp look in your Event Viewer, By going to Start, Control Panel ,
Performance and Maintenance, Administration, event Viewer. Look in there to
see if there is an Event listed that says what is going on, that may help you
isolate what is really going on.
Good Luck
