continuity footers when sections applied

Document (word2002) contains the following:
- text & pictures
- footer, being
* different odd and even
* different first pages
- some pictures are put next to each other as follows:
wrapping(in line with text) and put into columns

This has led to:
"Section Break (Continuous)" placed automatically before &
after these columns

Problem that occurred:
When I put text in the footer of an odd page e.g., not all
odd pages get text in their footer. When I put text in the
odd footers which remained empty, also the first page of
my document gets a footer (which is not wanted)

I tried to solve the problem in
"Page Setup" > "Layout", but I didn't achieve.

I suppose removing all the "Section Break (Continuous)"
would solve the problem, but I hope their exists be better
solution

(Another question which relates to the one above and might
solve the problem as well: Is it possible to put different
text in different sections (as: one section per chapter
e.g.)?)

Thanks in advance

You probably will need to either (temporarily) remove the Continuous breaks
or (temporarily) change them to Next Page in order to access the
header/footer belonging to that otherwise inaccessible section. Correct the
problems, then restore the Continuous breaks.

I removed all section breaks, then made up footer lay out
again (1st page different) and then defined columns again
in the document.

However, "1st page different" is then once again applied
to all new sections I made, removing footers throughout
the whole document.

Isn't it possible to apply columns, without footers paying
attention to them?

Thanks in advance

Tom
