Continuous numbering & Different section headers

S

Steve

I'm editing a MSS that has all the continuous numbering
complete in footers, but it lacks headers for the
chapters.

I'm trying to go through and create sections (e.g.
Insert, Section Break, Continuous) for the headers, so
that each chapter has a header (e.g. Chapter
1:Introduction).

Word seems to link header and footer, so that if I create
a new section (for the header) the footer wants to
respond as well, and start the page numbering all over by
sections. I want it to number continously through the
MSS -- staying just as it is now.

You don't need to create sections simply to change the header to reflect the
current chapter - use a Styleref field to put the current title information
in the header.

You could try this, I'm not sure, when you select "Insert Page Numbers", on
the Page Numbers dialogue, did you uncheck "Show number on first page" and
also disable "Link to previous page" on the Header and Footer toolbar?
