I upgraded Acrobat Adobe, and ever since, whenever I try to Control-V to
paste when I copied (using Control-C) some text, I just get this blasted
"adobe" icon. How can I get rid of the creepy thing?

I'm not sure of this, because maybe the Adobe command overrides any Word
assignments, but you could try to re-assign Ctrl+V to its proper
command, EditPaste.

Open Customize Keyboard (Tools, Customize, Keyboard), choose All
Commands in the left pane, in the right pane type "e" which will jump
you down to commands starting in "e," find EditPaste, and assigne
Ctrl+V.
