Controlling drawings (a CM problem)

Can you save me the trouble?
I'm looking for a cheap and easy tool to support the control of drawings
(which in fact are currently Word documents) that describe hardware
components and how they build up through sub-assemblies into assemblies and
systems. It needs some version control at the drawing level, and a
baselining function. I know we could do it with something like Dimensions,
or maybe even ClearCase, but they're too big and expensive. If necessary.
I'll write something myself in Access, but before I do, is there anything out
there (freeware, shareware?) that might help?

HI

I don't think access has any drawing capabilities at all.

If they are "very" simple drawings you could try using Word. But they are
not that simple then photoshop or Corel are best (I use Correl all the time -
so I know it's OK).

Good luck

Access can easily do CM for drawings. I devloped a very extensive db for an
multinational engineering firm using access and it worked perfectly!

That said you are mixing you apples and your oranges. CM & baseline dim are
not one in the same. The CM aspect access can handle no problem. Getting
into drawing aspects, dims, tols, ect. access can not do on it's own. Access
can interface with certain software if API exists ect,. If you use word for
you drawings I don't see how you could pull the info. But then perhaps you
should ask if it can be done in a word forum.

Long story short, for CM Access is more than adaquate!!!
