controlling when resources receive emails

please can someone tell me if it is possible to control
when the resources receive emails to tell them of their
tasks.
The reason this has come about is because my project
manager is fiddling around with projects publishing them
to the server, which then sends emails to the resources.

Would I be right in thinking it would be better to sort
out all the projects, resources, overallocations etc
before publishing?

I'm sure this must sound so simplistic to the experts but
we've had this a week and we're learning as we go!
Many thanks

As a rule of thumb, I recommend that the project assignments not be
published until the project is ready to begin execution. The publishing of
assignments is done by clicking Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed
Assignments. I believe it is also a good practice to complete all project
planning prior to the publishing of assignments. Project planning includes
task, resource, and assignment planning, plus cost analysis, critical path
analysis, and resolving resource overallocations. Before the project is
published, I also recommend that a baseline be saved.

On the human factors side of the coin, your boss is risking the "boy who
cried wolf" syndrome with his/her resources. Right now, they are getting a
flurry of e-mail messages that are irrelevent, and when the real messages
start to arrive, they may simply ignore them. Therefore, I opt for the plan
you have proposed. These are only my opinions, but I hope this helps.
