Conversion error on importing Excel spreadsheet

I am imported an Excel Spreadsheet and I am getting a conversion error
on one field. It was initially supposed to be a number for Employee
ID, but we found out that some old ID's had letter in them. Someone in
London sent me a new file to import and some of the records start
with"TX". I went into Excel and thought I changed the format on that
column to text(or General) and I still get the error. I have asked
them to send a new file, but how can I change Excel on this column?

Thanks,
Arep

Access looks at the first few records and decides for you what it thinks the
field should be.
Solution - add a dummy record just below column names to predetermine the
datatype for the field such as some text for Zip Code or telephone field.
