Convert 10/4/2006 to Oct 4

The date 10/4/2006 is in cell A1. I want a formula in cell K1 that will
change it to Oct 4. It can be Oct 4 2006 if it is easier. Thanks.

=A1
then format K1 as Custom mmm d

=A1 is the formula you need, then format the cell to show the detail you
want (mmm d will give you Oct 4, mmm d yyyy will give you Oct 4 2006)
