convert 2003 database to 2007 errors

Nick

Have been using access 2000, and 2007 was installed. When I went to convert
the old access database to 2007, I had to remove the password from the file,
which meant opening it in exclusive mode.

The problem I am having is when I then go to convert the file to 2007, it
tells me the file is in use by admin on my computer, and I must wait for this
to become available.

Closing the file does not help
Restarting the computer does not help
Copying the file to a new location does not help

I can convert it to a 2000-2003 version (same version) at which point it
does a compact and repair, and makes the new file, but that new file also
will not convert to a 2007 version, with the same error coming up.

How do I convert it to 2007?

Nick,

I am experiencing the same problem. I am running on Vista and it seems that
Access 2007 is opening the database with excluise hold on it. I have tried
multiple methods to resolve the problem, including creating an other database
in 2007 and importing the a 2003 database into it. Access 2007 did not
convert the database but created the new as a 2003 version. I will be
interested to know if you resolve this issue as it has me frustrated.

Good luck

Nick,

After messing with this for some time last night, I finally was able to
convert the 2003 databases to 2007.

First I moved off of Vista and back to XP Pro SP2. I reset all my Access
2007 setting. One setting in particular I had to reset was the default
databaes type in the GENERAL section. This setting was getting swithed back
to 2002-2003 version. I set this 2007 as the default. I also turn off the
modify switches in the "THIS DATABASE" section.
I then created a empty 2007 database and imported all the objects from the
2003 version. This converted the database to a 2007 version.

I hope this works for you.

Good Luck.
