What version of Excel do you have?

What version of Excel created the file(s)?

What is the extension of the file?

This is interesting..........I had a back up disc with my spreadsheets saved
on it. I popped it in and when I tried to open this particular spreadsheet I
rec'd the same error message, filename.zdl::file format is not valid.

What's up with that. How can the files saved to a disc have the same
problem???

According to www.filext.com a *zdl file is created by an application called
DesignPro Label Design. Why would you want to open that in Excel?

See my other post - a zdl file is NOT a spreadsheet file - either Excel or
CSV or text or any other spreadsheet application.

I don't. I did however visit the Avery label website looking for a template,
but didn't find it and made no changes. I wasn't even aware that "Avery
website" had anything to do with this until I began reading some of these
posts. It was then that I remember using the website. Is it possible that
something has been loaded, such as, the Design ProLabel you mention, and if I
locate it and remove it my problem would be solved? Thanks for your interest.

zdl file types are not readable in Excel. Now the question is What is
wrong. Did an Excel file somehow get named with a zdl extension or is it a
real zdl file (sounds possible since you were on the Avery site) and why is
it named the same as the Excel file you were looking for?

For a start, you might want to search for all zdl files on your computer
and (*.zdl) and then search for all files with the name you were expecting
as Excel files (YOURFILENAME.*)

I think I would try opening one of the zdl files in a text program like
Notepad or Wordpad. If it is the Excel file you were looking for, it will
likely display some recognizable text or numbers. If it does not then it
likely is totally corrupted or it is not the Excel file.

Do ALL your Excel files have this zdl extension, or is it just the one you
are trying to open?

Hi,

I think you can try to change the file extention to xls. If you still
can't open the file, the file is probably damaged, and you may try
Advanced Excel Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ This tool is
rather useful in salvaging damaged Excel xls files.

Looks to me like you're trying to open a file that's not an Excel (*.XLS)
file.

What's the file extension of the files you're trying to open? Here's how to
turn on file extensions if you don't already have them on:

Make Windows show file extensions and hidden files

Just read the rest of the thread. You can ignore my question about file
extension -- everyone's got that covered! :)
