Convert Foxpro DBF files into Access 2000

Hello,

I've got three files in .DBF format that were exported
from Mail Order Manager, a product which uses a Foxpro
database.

I've set up an ODBC data source using the Microsoft
VFPOBDC.DLL, version 6.01.8629.01, as a System data
source pointing to the directory where my three DBF files
sit.

When I try to import the files, however, only one of the
three tables shows up in the "Import Objects" dialog.
It's the smallest of the three - 1.3MB as opposed to 43MB
and 84MB.

I know I'm missing something fundamental - can someone
give me a clue, via email if possible?

Thanks!

Hi Ned

I've had this problem quite often...with both .DBF and .DB files.

Depending on the version of DBF files, I think you will find that the filename
more than likely exceeds the 8 characters allowed under DOS

Simply rename the file to 8 or less characters.

Best regards, and let me know how you make out.

Maurice, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the two
other files are both within the 8.3 convention - named
ITEMS.DBF and INVTRANS.DBF.

Any other ideas? Any way I can check the version or
otherwise diagnose these files?

Thanks,
Ned

Hi Ned,

Maybe this will help - as posted by VFP MVP Anders Altberg:You can have VFP DSN connections of two kinds, to free tables in a given
folder or to a VFP database. If you connection is to a folder then any table
(DBF-file) that is attached to a VFP database (a DBC-file) is not listed by
ODBC even though it's stored in that folder. If your connection is to a
database, no table files that aren't part of the database are listed, even
though they sit in the same folder.

and .DB
files.
.
I've noticed this as well. I needed to make xxx.fpt
visible to the driver along with xxx.dbf for the larger
files to be recognized and made available. I've also had
problems with come corrputed index (.cdx) files and have
had to link without specifying any index or primary key.
Ok for me since I read the Foxpro stuff once and trash it.

FWIW the FPT file is the memo file that accompanies DBFs that have memo
fields.
