Convert Oportunity to Project?

T

themurf

I have been looking for a way to convert an Oportunity into a project. Any
Oportunity I might close will become a project. All of the tracking emails
and other documents need to be associated then with the project. It seems to
me there swhould be a way to make a simle conversion from one BCM type to
another. Does anyone know how I might do this? If not I suggest that that
feature be incorporated. Thanks, Jim

Is there not an answer to this? Ive created many new opportunities, and
they are precipitating many project tasks now, and I'm not sure how to
convert an oppty into a project either. How do these two work together?

Current version of BCM doesn't allow converting a opp into the project. We
have gotten this feature request and added to list of things we are planning
to do for next version.

Thanks for your feedback.

Super.

I know you dont release a guaranteed roadmap, but what a good guess as to
when the next release will come? I mean a v3.1 which (may?) have things
such as this updated, not a v4 which I assume will be late 2007/early
2008 (??)

Any new information on this question???? Seems like it would be common sense
to add this feature so as to keep the history from start to finish. Why even
bother adding the "Opportunities" at all unless you can convert them to
"Projects".

It would still be helpful if we can at least link an opportunity to a project.

This is the part of the work flow which I do not understand: there is
function to convert opportunity to quote, but I thought most people would
already be sending out quotes during "opportunity stage", otherwise what is
the Product and services section for? For recording verbal quotes?! Instead
of having that, we'd rather have a "convert to project" function (SugarCRM
does exactly that, you might want to take a look).

Just my 2 cents worth.

I've wondered about this for a long time -- why there is a disconnect within
BCM for opportunities and projects, but a connection for opportunities to
Accounting. Seems like a project should be created at the same time an
opportunity is converted to Accounting, and then also connect that project to
Accounting.

I started this very basic concept in February of 2007 and here we are in July
of 2008 and still no update to allow this to happen. Too bad as this is the
one feature that makes BCM not really work. I tried for several years to make
OA and BCM work but the disconnect is too great. I have become convinced that
the MS design staff does not have real world job experience in the field
where the product they are developing will be used. Do you think this very
basic functionality failure will even be addressed? Jim

I was originally using Thunderbird for my email which I was happy with.
However I needed a CRM system which brought together my emails, calendar and
task so I started to use BCM with Outlook 2007. I found Outlook much more
cumbersome to use that Thunderbird and spent ages sorting out the email
signature. Now I've started to use BCM and find that an opportunity cannot be
converted to a business project which renders the whole Outlook / BCM
software useless to me. As mentioned many times before, a lot of work can go
into the formulation of a quote, and then if you win the quote then the
'project' starts. However all the information used in the quotation (the
Opportunity) forms the basis of the project or in my case sometimes, almost
the whole of the project.

I assume this massive lack of functionality has not been addressed even
though it is a number of YEARS since this thread began... lame Microsoft..
why did I even bother?

I will look into feasibility of creating an add-on to convert
opportunity to project. It will not be free, but I am certain it's
possible. :)

Thank you for the idea.
