Convert Text Fields to Text Boxes?

A

Alan Humpherys

I have a program (Personal Ancestral File) which will output it's
reports as an rtf file (as an alternative to printing them). This
allows me to import those files into another document directly (as
opposed to a print and scan-as-image thing)

Nice Feature :)

The problem is that it exports all of the Text on these reports as Text
Fields. It would be easier for me if they were Text Boxes so that I
can do things like multi-select, group, (and do some minimal resizing
of the page)

It is possible to convert a Text Box to a Text Field, but I cannot see
a mechanism to convert them in the opposite direction.

Any experts out there who can help?

If the change can't take place from within Word, is it possible to edit
the rtf file in a text or binary editor and change them to text boxes
there?

Thanks,
Alan

Since you say, "It is possible to convert a Text Box to a Text Field," I'm
guessing maybe what you mean by "Text Field" is not a text box form field
(as I at first assumed) but a frame. It's usually pretty easy to remove
frames: Ctrl+Q will often do it (since the frame is a paragraph property
that is rarely part of the paragraph style). That would give you plain text,
which you could then put in text boxes if desired.
