Convert text to numeric value

I wan to be able to convert a test code in one colum to
= a numeric value in another cell.
For example
PNI is a code that represent a value of $20.00
PS is a code that represents a value of $10.00
Ps would be entered into A1 and then converted to numeric value in cell f1
Please advise
