Convert vertical link bar from shared to local to change navig. op

I developed a Front Page 2003 site for an author (www.MargStark.com). The
default for showing the buttons on the left side put the navigation buttons
in an area called a "Shared border". That means, as you probably know, that
if I change it on one screen, I change it one screen, I've changed it on all
of them. Well, I never gave it a thought until this week when we added our
first lower level menu and, in changing the options for that screen, I
changed all of the menus!

I then tried killing the whole shared area and inserting the Link Bar in the
body of the page. That messed up the formatting big time.

Is there an easier way to say, "Yes, have a navigation list on the left side
but be defined as the link format for just this page?"

If I have to do it on every page, so be it, because at least it'll be that
way for every page that I template from here on in. But it sure seems like
one should be able to say, on a given page, "Let me change you without
affecting the other pages."

Again, I don't want to take advantage of you, but with the forums down, I'm
quite stuck for an answer (and found nothing like this in the help files).

Thanks!

In FP2003 use a Dynamic Web Template (DWT) in preference to shared borders.
Layout your page using tables or CSS, and in the left "border" insert an
editable region.
In this editable region place a default link bar - the link bar with
properties that will be used on most of your pages.
Attach the DWT to your pages.

In those pages where the navigation properties are to be different the nav.
bar is editable and can be changed, or even deleted, for each page
individually. The other pages will see the default nav. bar.

If the DWT is updated, the navigation on existing pages will retain whatever
settings they have.

You can still use shared borders, but need to decide what nav bar properties you want in them (they are common to all pages).
- right click the nav bar and select the levels you want
If you need different levels insert multiple nav bars

Alternatively use Include Pages or in FP 2003 use a DWT
