Convert Word 6.0/95 docs to Word X docs

Bill

I have a large number of Word 6.0/95 documents that I want to convert
to Word X documents. Is there an easy way to do this such as a public
script or other technique for accomplishing this task?

Many thanks for any help offered, Bill

Hi Bill:

Oh, sure there are various batch converters around. Microsoft has one in
one of its PC templates that we could adapt for you, or MacLink Plus has a
batch mode, I believe.

But I don't know why you would bother. Word X will open Word 6/95
documents, and if you make a change and subsequently save, it will give you
the choice to save in the original format or upgrade to Word X document
format.

Maybe if you tell us why you need to do this, we can suggest a better
approach (a batch process is laborious and fiddly to set up and slow).

All the best

Hi

Maybe this little trick will save you some time. Not sure if it will work
but it's easy and worth a try.

Let's say you have a folder of 30 word documents you want to convert. In
finder, select all of them then double-click so that they all open in Word
at the same time.

Now for a nifty secret. Hold the SHIFT key down while you click on the FILE
menu. A new little command called SAVE ALL will appear in the menu instead
of SAVE. Save them all at once and you're done.
