Converting a Access 97 app to 2007

I have a copy of the Access 97 app on CD that I need to convert to Access
2007. Do I need to have Access 97 loaded on my desktop to start the
conversion? OR can nI just open the 97 app in 2007 and start the conversion?
thanks in advance for the help

I'd create a new application in Access 2007 and import everything from the
Access 97 application into it.

I was able to import data tables with data and quieries but when I attempt to
import the app side I get a notice that the import is not allowed due an
unknow directory path and also permissions.
I copied the database and app from the host computer and I am attempting to
upgrade from 97 to 2007 on my home desktop.
Is there a work around or must I perform the upgrade/import from the host.

Not all the objects import because of the grants and permissions assigned to
the 97 database app.
1. Do I need to go into the 97 database and remove all the
grants/permissions and any other security that is associated with the app?
Then try the import again?
2. Would I have greater success having Access 97 and Access 2007 installed

1. Yes, removing the security will make it much easier.

2. Having them both installed should make no difference.

I removed the sescurity and was able to import all the objects. However, I
just read that access97 apps will not convert to the new 2007 ADDB format
unless I convert the 97 app in ACCESS 2003 or some eailer version. Is that
true?

Also, how do I delete a database from 2007?
Thanks

I'm unaware of a need to use an intemediary version of Access between Access
97 and Access 2007.

What do you mean by "delete a database from 2007"? Are you talking about
removing it from the MRU (Most Recently Used) list? I don't have Access 2007
installed on this machine, so I can't remember whether there's an option for
control the MRU. If there is, it would likely be under Access Options when
you click on the Office button in the upper left-hand corner. If there
isn't, you'll probably have to go into the registry to remove the entry.

No, you can convert it in Access2007 to the correct format of MDB or ACCDB.
If you want to convert A97 to 2000,2002,2003 MDB format, click the ofiice
start button - go to Access Option - Popular - Creating databases - Default
file format - select the format you wish (only 2000,2002-2003 and 2007 is
avialable).

If you opened the A97 DB without converting (click No), click office button -
convert, you can only convert to ACCDB format. (Unless clicking Yes the
default will be as in your Access Option)

If you run Access 2007 without A97 DB, click the office button - Open - in
the file window, select the A97 DB and a popup will appear asking you to
convert, click yes. A file window appears and in the Save as type, the
default format will be as according to what you have set in the Access Option.

A little very unfriendly way of converting isn't it? There's no way of
converting to another format once you click No it just stays in ACCDB.

Glad to hear that there is no need to involve any other version to convert 97
to 07.

Deleting db-Yes, the MRU (Most Recently Used) list shows db names even if I
have deleted them through explorer. I can't believe MS does not allow db
deletion from within Access. How goofy is that?
I did discover the option that enables a user to limit the number of MRUs
displayed however I do not see that as a solution. And I would not welcome
the thought of editing the register just to remove a db name.
Thanks for the reply.

I don't understand what you're saying, are you saying remove the MRU or to
delete the DB?

You can remove the MRU list in the Access Option. Go to Office Button -
Access Option - Advanced - scroll down to Display - uncheck "Show this number
of Recent Documents" - set it to zero (0).

Removing the MRU does not delete the DB, it just remove the short cut link.

Deleting a DB file as it's always been since Access version 1 and till 2007 (
and still be the same in 2010 version), open My Computer or File Explorer
search to your file right click or use the menu to delete.
