Converting Access 2003 OR 2002 to 97

Adam

Hi All,

At home I have Access 2003 and Access XP installed my on Windows XP pro
machine.

I want to create a database in either one of those versions and save as an
Access 97 version. Is this possible?

but as far as i know, it a one way street.

In Access 2000 you can convert a database to an earlier version, and I think
you can also do it in Access 2003.

Tools > Database Utilities > Convert Database > To Prior Access Database
Version

Actually 2003 lets you convert "down" to either 2000 or 97 versions, but I
don't know what happens to any functions or other features that did not yet
exist in Access 97.

I assume that the file "format" is converted, but that you still have to go
through and test everything and re-write those areas that don't work.

My understanding is that the feature was added to allow recovery from
accidental conversions. I don't think it was ever intended to support a
'develop in 200x, deploy in 97' scenario.

me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be

GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

Hi Adam,

There isn't much point in developing in a later version and then down
converting to the older version. Any functionality based on new features
will be lost and create a maintenance headache. The general rule is that
when an application must be used by client systems with a range of versions,
develop in the oldest version.

You can probably still find licensed copies of Access 97 on eBay or
UsedSoftware at very reasonable prices.
