Converting from MS/Outlook to a new version on different computer

I am planning my install of a new computer and I'd like to install a newer
version of MS/Office on the new computer. Will this procedure work?

1. Copying Outlook*.pst and Achieve*.pst files on my old computer

2. Moving these files to the new computer (after the install of the new
product)

3. Importing these files into the new Office/XP work?

If so, are there any other considerations?
