Converting MS Publisher to Frontpage

B

bob

I have just spent a great deal of time building a company
web page in Publisher 2000. Our company uses Qwest for
its Internet Host, and Qwest does not allow Publisher
websites to be uploaded onto the web. They allow
Frontpage, and I am wondering if I can convert my
Publisher web page to Frontpage, and save having to
rebuild it.

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.
I am not an IT Pro in any stretch of imagination, so if
it seems that I am misunderstanding something please feel
free to inform me.

Best,

Bob

I've never heard of a host "not allowing" a certain web designer, nor
"allowing" one. A host doesn't need to care what you use to create your web
pages. Only you do if there is some functionality you want, for example if
you want to use the server components in FrontPage than you would want to
know that the host had installed FP extensions on your domain. There is no
reason to tell a host you are using Publisher, and most hosts suffer from
ignorance about Publisher. The code in Pub 2000 is very similar to FP code.
Additionally if you want to use HTTP for publishing and/or you want to use
the server components in Publisher you will require FP extensions installed
since Pub uses the FP technology and thus as far as the host is concerned
you are using FP. If you are using FTP for publishing then there is
absolutely no reason for you to care anymore than there is for them to care.

As far as a conversion, I have always discouraged it. While the code can be
similar the methodology is different between the two. It can easily take
more time to rework it in FP than it would to just start over in FP. If you
are not well versed in html and css and a seasoned user of FP I wouldn't try
it.
That's my opinion based on experience.
