Converting normal.dot to normal.dotm? (Office XP to 2007)

Does anyone know of a methodology for converting old normal.dot to the new
normal.dotm format?

We are deploying new PCs here for our employees, and these come with 2007
preinstalled.

Some of my users have LARGE amounts of autotext on their systems, and would
like that imported into their new systems.

I've attempted to open the normal.dot, convert it in Word then save it as
normal.dotm to the desktop - however, the newly saved normal.dotm doesn't
take the autotext with it. Moving this new normal.dotm to the folder with
the base normal.dotm confirms this.

So my question is - how can I import a users old Autotext into Word 2007?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Dustin,

You can place a copy of the old Normal.dot file in the same user folder as their 'Building Blocks.dotx' file and Word will add the
autotext entries to the Insert=>Quickparts listing in Word 2007.

It uses the Normal.dot (or other template) as a 'library'.

I knew there had to be a way, after all, ours can't be the only company in
the world doing this, but I spent the better part of a day looking through
assorted migration documents and found NOTHING that explained it.

Hi Dustin,

FWIW, I usually rename the Normal.dot that I'm going to place as a Document Parts library to something else (Word2003 Autotext.dot
for example), so that should you later have a problem with Word's 'behavior' you don't accidentally find and delete that Normal.dot
as part of troubleshooting.
