Converting shapes

When I right-click on a shape (currently a square) one of the options is
"Convert Shape", but when I choose that option there is no clear direction on
what to do next. I have tried then clicking on my preferred shape (a circle)
- nothing happens. I have tried clicking and dragging a circle over to the
chosed square that just gives me a new circle on top of my square.

What am I missing?

Which shape is this, what is the shape name and which stencil?

What version of Visio are you using? There was a Change Shape command in
Visio 2000 in the organization chart shapes that would convert one position
to another position type. In the current version of Visio (2007) it's now
called Change Position Type...
