Converting text to numbers

An imported column of negative numbers has the "-" sign at
the end of the number so Excel does not recognize it as a
number. How do I convert this so it will be recognized as
a number?

One way:

=-1*SUBSTITUTE(A1,"-","")

In Excel 2002, or later versions, you can use the Data>Text to Columns
feature. For other versions you can change the numbers programmatically.
