Converting to Office 2007 - Can I keep and use my previous version

Hi!!
I understand what 'convert' means, but I still don't know if converting to
Office 2007 will replace my previous version of Office (2003). I want to
keep both versions, AND I want to be able to choose which version to open a
document with. In other words, I DON'T want the computer to decide for me by
making 2007 the default version. (When I'm in a hurrying to get a document
finished, I need to use a version I am very familiar with. When I am free,
I'll fiddle around and learn all about 2007 :) ) Can someone let me know
how to set it up that I can choose which version of Office to save or open a
documetn with? :)
Thanks!!!

You certainly can do that - the only restriction is that you can't have two
versions of Outlook....

AFAIK you can't do that - 2007 will of course be the default version for
..docx but I think you will have to open 2003 first and then open a document
in it.

When you run the setup program for Office 2007, you will have a choice
of an Upgrade installation or a Custom installation. If you choose
Upgrade, then the setup program *should* automatically replace your 2003
programs with their equivalent 2007 versions (but it doesn't quite
always work that way). If you choose Custom, then in the Installation
Options tab you can choose which 2003 programs you wish to keep and
which 2003 programs you wish to replace with 2007 versions. You can
only have one version of Outlook installed, so you need to decide
whether you want the 2003 or 2007 version. You can have both 2003 and
2007 versions of the other Office applications installed side-by-side if
you want. Regardless of whether you choose an Upgrade or Custom
installation, at some point you may be prompted to insert your Office
2003 CD to complete the installation, so be sure you have it handy
before you start.

The newer Office version usually becomes the default application for
opening files that you double-click on from your desktop, an email
attachment, or a hyperlink. The usual workaround is to first start the
application version that you want to use, and then open the file from
within that application.

Yes it is possible. Use the Custom installation as described by garfield-n-odie
