Converting Word docs to FP

D

Daldot

I have a whole series of Word documents that I put into FP. I got a web
created and they seem to work okay, but there are all these little yellow
boxes with question marks in them and I don't know if it is safe to delete
them or not. There are TONS of them, so I'd like to know the ramifications
for both deleting them and leaving them. Any help is appreciated!

You need to leave them as is. If you delete them the page
will have errors. One thing to remember about MS Word
documents converted to HTML is that they really only
display well in IE (Internet Explorer). So, anybody
visiting your website that does not have IE will
see "errors". Most mainstream browsers have acceptable
support however.

Thanks, Bill. I've already run into problems where I've needed to update
graphics and the old ones are still in there until I do take out the yellow
boxes that are close to the graphic. Since, enterprise wide, IE is the
designated browser, I am more concerned about maintenance of these files for
anyone coming in after me. How can I EASILY make them 'pure' FP files? Any
suggestions?

Copy your documants into Notepad to strip away all the messy Word code. Then
copy it back into your page and use CSS to format it the way you like.

Thank you for your help!

I just realized, however, that I am misleading everyone. These are actually
documents created in Word that have been saved as HTML. I think that may make
a big difference in the answers to my questions! My apologies to all!!

Thanks, Crash <grin>. I tried looking for the thread about it and was not
successful. The link would help a lot!

This could be VERY helpful! I'll talk to the IT support person and verify it
is okay for me to download it for my PC. Thanks a lot...you've been a big
help!

My original recommendation is still valid... strip the excessive code and
format it with your CSS file.

I just drag the Word file from Windows Explorer onto an open page in FP.
Seems to work fine. So far, no one has found any extra coding because of it.

I've been using the trick (I think originally from you) for a while with
very good results.
