Converting Works 6 xls to Excel 2002 files

I have several Works spreadsheet files that I would like
to open in Excel. They both use the .xls extension and the
files WILL open in Excel but they lose all their formatting

Is there a different way to convert those sheets so that
they don't have to be modified by hand?
