converting works files to word

I have some old files written on my previous computer using works. I know
have XP with word 2002. How can I convert these files so that I can access
them in word? Help gratefully received.

What version of Works? Works word processing files all have a
..wps extension, but the format of .wps files has changed from one
version of Works to another, so you need to install the correct
converter for the version of Works used to create the .wps file.

Thanks for the info. I hate to ask what may seem like an obvious question,
but how do I find out what version of works? I no longer have my old
computer. The files are now saved on my new one in My documents. Your help
would be gratefully received.
