copied movies work and then not anymore

Hi all,

I just had to present some ppt's including movies. One of them I copied onto
my laptop, we checked the movies (.avi & .wmv) and they were all fine. While
presenting it didn't, I tried afterwards again, nothing... When I relinked
them they were fine again...

Can somebody explain this for me please?

Videos are always linked, as it seems you may know.

If you put the video onto another computer, but it's in a different place,
then PPT may not be able to find it. Actually, PPT *will not* be able to
find it.

For example, if you create the file on your computer and link to a video in
the My Documents folders, PPT is looking for the video in a place like this:
C:\Users\Peter\Documents\. If you then copy the video to the other computer,
it's in a place like this: C:\Users\John\Documents. So PPT can't find it.

Best practice is to put the video in the same folde with the PPT file and
then insert it into the presentation. Then copy the whole folder to the
other computer. PPT will usually find videos that are in the same folder
with it -- as long as they were in that same folder when you inserted them.

Also, make sure the path length isn't too long. If you put the file in a
folder on the desktop, you might have a file path like this: C:\Documents
and Settings\PeterDiscussions\Desktop\New_folder_for_my_presentation\ So,
even if the video and presentation are in the same folder, PPT might not
recognize the video because the file path is too long.

thnx for that, I already found lots of information myself, but nothing
explains that (without moving, ...) it first does work and afterwards not
anymore...
