Copy and Past" without a Picture (Device Independent Bitmap) problem

D

David F. Sage

Recently I installed MS Office Standard Edition 2003, an example of my
problem is:

Copy text from Notebook and try to past it in Outlook 2003, the copied text
appears in Outlook as a Picture (Device Independent Bitmap).

How do I make it possible to "Copy and Past" without the above problem, many
thanks for help given?

David.

Are you starting Outlook after you've copied the text? If that's the
cause then it sounds like a third-party add-in is utilizing the
Clipboard when Outlook starts which replaces the Clipboard contents.
Norton AV, for example, uses the Clipboard to copy/paste the icons on
the Norton AntiSpam toolbar.

What is Notebook? I'm not familiar with that application. Do you mean
Notepad? OneNote? I can't replicate the problem with either of those.

Beth, when using Outlook 2003 I often copy text from a Word 2003 or Notepad
document and try to past it in an email, result is a Picture (Device
Independent Bitmap) Icon.

Installed is Norton Internet Security 2005, Antivirus and Antispam.

Thanks for your help, David.

If the bitmap looks similar to the Recycle Bin with a green arrow and
envelope then you're seeing what I previously described, the result of
the Norton Antispam add-in.

When Outlook starts the add-in is loaded and the Norton Antispam
toolbar is generated. They add the icons to the toolbar by using the
Windows Clipboard. If you start Outlook first, then copy from Word or
Notepad, you should be able to paste what you copied rather than the
icon.

Are you starting Outlook before you copy?

Beth, the Picture (Device Independent Bitmap) Icon I get is the same as you
describe.

I have just tried starting Outlook 2003 and then copy text from Notepad, the
past-in worked OK.

Do you know if it is possible to stop the problem in Norton Antispam,
otherwise I will train myself to open Outlook first?

I appreciate your good help and thank you, kind regards David.

I opted to keep mine turned on and I've trained myself to start
Outlook first. But I also wanted to know how to turn it off (it's a
control issue... <grin>) It took a bit, the add-in refused to die, but
I finally figured out the exact steps:

- Close Outlook
- Open Norton Internet Security
- Under "Status and Settings" select "Norton AntiSpam"
- Click "Turn Off"
- Start Outlook
- Go to Tools/Options/Other, then click "Advanced Options"
- Click the "COM Add-ins" command
- Select the Norton AntiSpam add-in and then click "Remove"
