copy and paste graphics from ppt to adobe illustrator CS3

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I've done this operation many times when using Tiger as my operating system and using Office 2004. But I just upgraded my operating to OS 10.5.6(mac) and also updated from Office 2204 to Office 2008.

What I'm trying to do seems very simple to me, but after spending the whole afternoon with Adobe Illustrator support it seems I'm mistaken.

My task is to select a graphic element (crude line drawing) from a ppt 2208 document, basically do a copy and paste between ppt and adobe illustrator CS3. The element is selected from a powerpoint page, copied (to the clipboard... and I can visually see it there) but when I open my illustrator document and try to do a paste (comand-V) or from the edit pull down apply the paste command... NOTHING APPEARS!

Now I can get the result I'm looking for when pasting the graphic into Photoshop just fine... I can then move the element to illustrator. I'm just looking to save a step that I didn't have to do prior to the upgrades.

Seems like a pretty easy request...copy and paste between programs?

Thanks.....sberg

Hi esberg -

This is one that goes back a long way & I can't recall if there was any
resolution to it... apparently not. It's another of those "who's to blame"
arguments :) Based on my understanding of the clipboard mechanism...

When you copy, the program you're in determines what gets put on the
clipboard but the target program selects from what's available there when you
paste. Since you've confirmed that the content is on the clipboard & the same
content can be pasted into other files (including other Adobe formats) I tend
to believe that Illy is at fault - it apparently isn't properly equipped to
recognize that type of content. [And before anyone accuses me of being pro-MS
here let me say that I'm also an Adobe Certified Instructor].

Make sure you have Illy fully updated just in case you missed a patch
somewhere along the line - do the same for Office. If that still doesn't fix
it you can Control/Right-Click the graphic & choose Save As Picture, pick a
graphic format, then place the resulting file in the Illy document. It's
still 2 steps but one less program involved :)

You might also inquire in the Adobe Forum for Illy to see if there are any
developments I might have missed - I haven't kept on top of this one because
I never have occasion to do this. The link for the Illy Forum on the Mac is:
