Copy from Explorer to Word 2002 not working

When I copy all or part of an email message to the clipboard and then try to
paste into Word 2002 (10.6818.6817) SP3, Word hangs up. To close Word I must
right click the tile at the bottom, select and select "close" or do an
alt-control-delete and close from Task Manager. In either case I get a
"Program not responding" message. I am running Windows XP Home with SP2.
This problem first occurred several months ago.

This problem was first reported to Microsoft some time back. The message I
got back then was that I needed to upgrade SP3. I did that but it did not
fix the problem. Then I got a message that said I need to upgrade to Office
2007 to fix the problem (however, I do not have a DVD drive so I don't think
that is possible).

Recently when I again reported the problem to Microsoft I got the a message
back which says: Cannot Find Program

However, not being a very knowledgable user, I have no clue what to do about
this. Any help will be appreciated.

When pasting into Word, try using Edit | Paste Special | Paste as:
Unformatted text.

Thanks for your suggestion. When I tried Paste Special, unformatted text the
paste did complete successfully and it did not cause Word to hang up.
