Copy & Paste from internet???

I am stuck with a certain problem with Excel and was hoping some of yo
kind people out there could help. Here goes:-

I am managing my home finances on Excel and in the past have faced th
laborious task of typing in all my transactions from my monthl
statements. I have recently discovered that I can COPY and PASTE thes
directly from the internet as I bank online.

The problem is that when numbers are "PASTED" from the internet int
excel it has letters which follow it (as this is how the number i
shown online). eg.

125.67 CR or 1564.76 DR

What I want to do is to format these cells to show as follows:

$125.67 or $1564.76

As this allows me to then perform mathimatical calculations with th
number (at present excel doesn't recognise 125.67 CR as a number).

The only solution so far is to manually delete the letters from eac
cell, but this takes up too much time.

Can anyone help???

Hi tazhearts

You can use Data>Text to Columns in the menubar to seperate the numbers from the text

Thanks Ron,

Sorry about this but could you expand on your solution. I'm a bit of
an Excel novice and need to be taken step by step.

If I give you the example as follows:-

A cell I have copy and pasted from the internet appears as so:-

1235.43 CR

However I would like it to appear:-

$1235.43

without having to maunually delete the letters "CR".

Can you talk me through it?

Thanks a lot for your help, most appreciated.

Select the cells
And then use Data>Text to Columns in the menubar
(use fixed widht)

If Excel see 1235.43 as text post back

Format the cell the cell you like if the result is corect
And delete the column with CR in it

Forget my last post, I've managed to work it out, thanks a lot for the
advice.

If you've got a spare minute, you couldn't look at my other post could
you? Entitled "sorting by text"

thanks again
