Copy Picture for 2007

M

meg99

Yesterday I upgraded to 2007. I use the copy picture function often
to create gantt chart presentations in Power Point.
However, I have a problem with 2007. In my gantt chart I have changed
some summary bar colors to represent various elements within the
project. On the screen some bars change color and some don't.
However, when I double click the bar it does show the new color and
when I go to print preview it shows the color change and the printed
copy shows the color change. However, when I use "copy picture" and
place the resulting object into Power Point, it does not always show
the color change - on some bars it does and on some it doesn't.

Anybody know why?

Hi Meg99,

Have you installed SP-1 as well as the Infrastructure Update
released in July? I believe the IU solved some problems with the
Gantt bars in 2007. I'd start there.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie,
Yes I have installed both the infrastructure update and SP1. No
change. I have another issue as well. When I go to Print Preview and
select fit to 1 page wide and 1 page tall, the horizontal lines that I
have selected in gridlines slices thru the bar labels that appear
below the bar. Example: I have some tasks rolled up to a summary
level and have placed the bar labels either above or below the bar to
prevent overwrite. The gridline cuts off half of the bottom label.
It also prints that way. If I view at 100%, everthing is fine except
that I get 2 pages and I need 1 page. Also, if I use the copy picture
function, evertyhing comes out fine and I can paste it into powerpoint
etc with no problem. There only seems to be a problem with this in
print preview fitting to 1 page. A colleague of mine has the same
problem with his 2007. I searched the user group and couldn't find
anything on it. I am surprised there haven't been some posts about
this.

Meg99,

Is there any difference if you turn off the 3D display of the bars?

No. 3d on or off does not matter. But I found a solution. If I
expand the row a very large amount and then resize to just below the
text. I get what I want. The problem with that this requires manual
manipulation of each row to get just the right size.

Hi,

If resizing the row helps, try Format > Bar Styles and change one of
the bars to appear in Row two. That will automatically increase the
height for each row and may be enough to fit the bar as well as the
text underneath.

Julie,
I already tried that - doesn't work. The bars or milestones on row 2
do not display in print preview. Try it. Take a project and rollup
some tasks to a summary and set the rollup bars to display on row 2.
Then go to print preview and see what you get. I expect that the
display functions/programs for 2007 were not thouroughly tested.

Hmm. Rolled up bars set to line 2 works fine on my end. But then
showing text underneath the bars also worked fine on my system. I
don't know if checking your printer drivers for updates may help or
perhaps printing to another printer (if available) may help narrow
down the difficulty.

I have not tried that. Will give it a go.
