How can I copy tasks from MSP to Excel and somehow keep the summary tasks
formatted correctly? Currently when I copy tasks over to MS Excel, all the
summary tasks and regular tasks appear the same. Any help?
1. Go to file->Save As
2. Select Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls) from the "Save as type"
field.
3. Click save and the export wizard comes up, click Next.
4. Select Project Excel template and click finish.
5. Open the excel file you just saved.
6. Select all the tasks and sort the tasks by the Outline level
column.
Example:
Name
Outline level
Phase 2 - ISTS ITSM Project 1
Project Close
1
Project Documentation 2
Detailed Process Design -- Policies & Procedures 2
Infrastructure
2
Analyze
2
Implementation Coordinations 2
Build (Mercury Tool Configuration) 2
Test
2
ITSM Training
2
Rollout
2
Post Go-Live Support 2
Project Scope & Charter 3
Project Management Plan 3
Project
Kickoff 3
Project Statement of Work 3
Initial Project Schedule 3
Resource Plan
3
7. Highlight each level and indent them as appropriate (level 2 indent
once and level 3 indent twice)
Name
Outline level
Phase 2 - ISTS ITSM Project 1
Project Close
1
Project Documentation 2
Detailed Process Design -- Policies & Procedures 2
Infrastructure
2
Analyze
2
Implementation Coordination 2
Build (Mercury Tool Configuration) 2
Test
2

Training 2

2
Post Go-Live Support 2
Project Scope & Charter 3
Project Management Plan 3
Project Kickoff
3
Project Statement of Work 3
Initial Project Schedule
3
Resource Plan 3
8. Repeat for all levels
9. Select all tasks and sort by the ID column. This will give you the
project format that you are looking for.
I hope this works for you.
Cheers
