Hi Frank - Thanks for that. I had problems with the formula and error msgs.
Eventually I opened the master file together with a new file. I placed an =
sign in A1 of the new file and clicked on the square in the top LH of the
master file - and it worked. It's probably the same as you are suggesting,
but this way suited my simple thinking. Anyway thanks for your help - you
certainly pointed me in the right direction.
