copying file from Excel to powerpoint

I am running Win 2000, and office 2002 sp1 for both excel
and powerpoint
When I select a group of cells in excel and select copy
and then want to paste them into powerpoint
I cannot get them to paste as an excel file
I get the following message
The server appliction source file or item canot be found,
or returned and unknown error
You may need to reinstall the server application

I will add that I am running Win 2000 with sp3

Instead of using "Paste", click the "Edit" menu in PowerPoint and select
"Paste Special". It should select the "Microsoft Excel Object" as the
default. Click OK and see if that works.
