The answer to the first part of that question is to copy
a cell containing the formula you want to copy, then
right-click on the destination cell and select "Paste
Special". In the dialog box that comes up, you can
select to only copy the formula to apply it to that cell.
In many cases, you can also use the black box to drag the
formatting across to the cells that need the formula.
