Copying over Outlook 2000 files

Hi, I recently upgraded from WinMe to WinXP and reinstalled my Office 2000
Pro. on new setuep. Before, when I did a wipe reinstall with ME, I could
back up a folder (I believe one of the folders in Application Data) and then
copy it over to the new install of Outlook and have all my email and address
just as they were before reinstall. I was wondering how to go about it from
ME to XP since it is clear XP stores things in different places than ME, and
I have yet to figure it out myself.

Thanks!

You can store your PST file wherever you wish. When you installed Outlook on
this computer & created a new profile, it created a new, vanilla PST file
called outlook.pst.

It's usually in C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook - you need to view hidden &
system folders to find it. You can delete it with Outlook closed.

Then when you open Outlook, direct it to your real PST file.

My method/preferences: I'd redirect My Documents on the desktop to something
you set up yourself, such as c:\data (choose 'move' when prompted), and put
the PST file in c:\data\outlook - I don't like using the default profile
folders as you may have problems with them if your profile gets hosed.
Rename the PST file something useful, like myname.pst.
