Corrupt 2007 file?

J

John Horton

I have a file that was in 2003 but opened in 2007 and saved as 2007. When I
tried to reopen I got an error message something like . . . operation can not
be completed because of invalid project data or total number of rows exceed
.. . . . . .

Ideas?

Hello John,

There have been several reports about corruption of project 2003 files
in Project 2007. Many of those incidents involved files which were
password protected. For the time being, the recommendation is to avoid
using passwords on Project 2007 files.

Regular backups are also strongly recommended for all Project files, not
just 2007.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi,

I have this exact problem when I open a 2003 file in 2007, delete unassigned
resources from the resource sheet, close and re-open the file.

Any thoughts on why I shouldn't delete resources that are unassigned?

Thanks!

Hello Mark,

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. Project files can become
corrupt and unstable for a myriad of reasons, not all of which are
easily discoverable. The best I can recommend is to have a stable
backup system in place. If you are converting Project 2003 files to
2007, I suggest having a copy of the original (non-converted) file
available for just such a problem.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
