Corrupt installation, cannot install/remove/repair

Mark Hanford

I have a situation on one of my user's W2k laptops where he is unable to run
any Office XP applications, due to an error that keeps appearing:

Microsoft [Excel/Word/whatever] has not been installed for the current user.
Please run setup to install the application.

I have tried running the setup from both the add/remove programs applet, and
the CD, whichever I run I get the following error:

Windows Installer
This patch package could not be opened. Verify that
the patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package.

Is there a way of purging all installation files or doing a manual
uninstall? I am at a loss as to what to do, short of reinstalling the entire
laptop. The poor (remote) user cannot do any work at the moment...

thanks,

Mark Hanford

Try setting your users rights to power user for each
person who needs to run office 2000.

computer which is running Windows 98 and every time I try
to run any Office XP application it acts like it is trying
to install something then it gives me an Error saying that
some DLL file is corrupt and I cannot use the installer
package, so I cant unistall, repair, or do anything, I
have absolutly no clue what to do and no one seems to be
able to help, Has anyone helped you with your problem? If
so PLEASE tell me what you found out, if I find something
I will inform you if you have not solved the probelm
