Corrupt Word Files

I'm using Microsoft Office X on my Macintosh iBook OSX. When I try to open
Word .docs, they open with additional lines of code at the bottom of the page
(in addition, they also open without paragraph indents, italics, or
apostrophes). Should I reinstall or is there another solution?

In the Open dialog, change the "Files of type" dropdown from "Recover
text from any file" to "Word documents" or "All files". See
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/RecoverText.htm.

Thanks for the solution. It was an easy fix that only took about two seconds
to complete (compared to the last few hours I've spent working on this!).
